Deck the Halls with Gold and Silver

December 12, 2017 0 Comments

If you are a coin collector, or a bullion collector, there is no reason at all why the Christmas season should be ‘down time’ for you. There could surely be no better way to continue to build your collections, and celebrate the festive season at the same time, than investing in gold and silver Christmas coins, bars and medals. They make interesting gifts for anyone, young or old, friends or family. As a stocking stuffer for a child, they could fire their interest in a life-long hobby, as well as a lesson in the power of investment. Even within your family, imagine a Christmas tree decorated entirely in gold and silver – adding a few more pieces each year. Their value in the years to come will increase, not decrease, yet their festive value remains undiminished.

For example, the Silvertowne Mint is a highly-respected private mint, who provide the US Mint with silver blanks for the Silver Eagle series, which we have written about before. For Christmas they produce high-quality .999 pure silver medals at very reasonable cost. One side shows a Christmas tree and reindeer, with the words “Merry Christmas”. On the reverse side the words, “Best Wishes for Peace and Joy This Holiday Season.”, and the year are written as a border, with a clear space where a personal wish could be engraved. What better gift for a loved one?

If you want a more colorful gift, then the same medal is available enameled, with a red background, a green tree and light brown reindeer. All ready to sparkle in the candlelight. There are numerous other designs in this series, with Snowmen, Santa faces, as well as figures of Jesus, and praying hands. Whatever you are looking for, the Silvertowne collection probably has it.

Other mints also do Christmas pieces. The Highland Mint, another reputable mint with a reputation for high-quality work, has very attractive 1-ounce, .999 pure silver medals that are ideal for children. They feature Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer on one side, with the words, “Merry Christmas”, and a garland of bows. On the other side there are snowflakes falling, with “Season’s Greetings” and the year. They too have variations on the Christmas theme to suit all interests.

If the idea of metal bars is more appealing, then Silvertowne have stepped up with finely-worked pieces for that need too. The 2017 Christmas Rejoice Silver Bar has an angel, framed in beams of light, one the front. The words, “Rejoice! For unto us a child is born,” completes the design. The back has, “Best Wishes for Peace and Joy This Holiday Season” on it, with again space for engraving. Oh, and let’s not forget the tiny prancing reindeer around the edge, adding to the visual pleasure of this 1-ounce bar of .999 pure silver. Imagine a sack of those on Santa’s back!

Let’s not forget Gold, which as a more serious investment is worthier of more serious treatment. One-gram, 2.5-gram and 10-gram bars are widely traded, and to give them a special holiday touch as a gift, consider the Produits Artistiques Métaux Précieux refinery in Switzerland. Often called PAMP Suisse, these bars bear an image of the Greek goddess Fortuna, symbol of good luck.  What better luck could anyone have than to receive one of these beauties as a gift? Deck the halls and got on with the fun!
