Gold Mercury Dime
Originally released in 1916, the Mercury Dime (also known as the Winged Liberty Head dime) was widely admired and was an instant success. To this day, it is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful circulation coins every minted.
Designed by Adolph Weinman (also the designer of the Walking Liberty Half Dollar), the Mercury Dime design replaced the Barber dime that had been struck for 25 years. Weinman’s design beat out a competition of engravers that included Charles Barber – who was the Chief Engraver for 25 years. Both of Weinman’s designs were chosen; the Mercury Dime as well as the Walking Libery Half Dollar.
For 2016, the United States Mint is creating a 3-coin Centennial Series of gold coins. The 3 coins will be the Mercury Dime, the Standing Liberty Quarter, and the Walking Liberty Half Dollar. The first coin in the series is the Gold Mercury Dime.
Beautifully struck in .9999 fine 24-karat gold, the Gold Mercury Dime marks the 100th Anniversary of the release of the original Winged Liberty Head Dime. The obverse and the reverse feature the exact same, cherished design as the original.
Each Gold Mercury Dime comes encapsulated from the U.S. Mint and packaged in a beautiful black-matter hardwood presentation case. Every coin also comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
